Camp Lejeune Lawsuit Settlements

Posted by Jeremiah Boling | Sep 19, 2022 | 0 Comments

Camp Lejeune is a United States Marine Corps base in Jacksonville, North Carolina. It was established in 1941 as Camp Blount, a U.S. Army camp, and renamed in 1950 to honor Major General John A. Lejeune. The base is famous for being the site of many USMC recruits' first training experience at Boot Camp

Camp Lejeune's water supply has been contaminated with toxic chemicals since 1953 when wells were drilled into groundwater that was heavily polluted by industrial waste from the surrounding area." These chemicals include trichloroethylene (TCE) and perchloroethylene (PCE), benzene, vinyl chloride, ethylene dibromide, and dichloroethylene among others - once used primarily in dry cleaning chemicals or paint removers/degreasers but also metalworking fluids such as hydraulic brake fluid."

Camp Lejeune water contamination

Camp Lejeune is a United States Marine Corps base in North Carolina. Established as a naval base in 1941, Camp Lejeune serves as the home of the 2nd Marine Division, its subordinate units and elements of the II Marine Expeditionary Force.

The water contamination was discovered in 1985 when off-base residents began complaining about health issues. The contamination was linked to benzene, trichloroethylene (TCE) and vinyl chloride compounds (VCM) which were used for degreasing, cleaning and painting equipment at Camp Lejeune's motor pool area.

The United States Congress found that the United States Department of the Navy was negligent in allowing drinking water contamination at its Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune from 1953 to 1987.

The United States Congress found that the United States Department of the Navy was negligent in allowing drinking water contamination at its Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune from 1953 to 1987. This is important because it provides a legal basis for victims of this contamination to seek redress.

The federal report says “between 2.1 million and 4.3 million people may have been exposed” to the toxic mixture of chemicals - including trichloroethylene (TCE) and perchloroethylene (PCE), benzene, vinyl chloride, ethylene dibromide, and dichloroethylene among others - once used in dry cleaning chemicals, paint removers and degreasers, metalworking fluids, etc.

Congressional Budget Office Estimates Payments of $278.5 Billion from PACT Act

The Congressional Budget Office estimates that the Honoring Our Pact Act will cost $278.5 billion. The resulting payouts can depend on the number of individual parties seeking damages, and the severity of their injuries. Our lawyers anticipate significant payouts, potentially of over $1,000,000 to individual plaintiffs depending on the exposures of the veteran.

The statute of limitations for bringing an action before the Court is two years after the passage of the PACT Act, or 180 days after the claim has been denied under 28 USC § 2675, whichever is later.  This means it is important to act fast to pursue potential compensation for damages related to Camp Lejeune exposure.

Camp Lejeune water contamination is a serious issue for veterans or their loved ones who served at the Marine Corps Base. The Veterans Administration recognizes many illnesses linked to contaminated drinking water as service-related, which means that veterans may be eligible for disability benefits, health care and home loans from the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA). If you or someone you know was exposed to chemicals like trichloroethylene (TCE), perchloroethylene (PCE), benzene, vinyl chloride ethylene dibromide and others while living on Camp Lejeune during this time period, call us at 1-800-799-7914 or contact us today for more information about your legal options.
